Michael, "Beware the Ides of March"

On this day 2,054 years ago Julius Caesar was slain by his old friend Brutus; who once before had challenged Caesar for power but was defeated and later welcomed into his council. Today, Mr. Ignatieff abandons the sitting legislature to embark on what can only be described as a Hypocrisy Tour. Will Bob Rae be making the trip with him, or will he get to sit in the big chair in his absence? Just as a soothsayer told Caesar before the incident, "beware the ides of March" (advice that was not heeded), Mike sure picked an auspicious historical day to ditch work.

Why is this so hypocritical? One of the reasons the Conservatives gave for proroguing Parliament was for MPs to consult their constituents for thoughts and feedback. The Liberals cried foul, saying that it was necessary for them to be working in the legislature. After just two short weeks back to work, Iggy is ditching work to go on the road and collect feedback from constituents! It is a classic example of do as I say, not as I do. While Mike is blinded by Canada at 150, I’d like to take a moment to remind him about Brutus at 2054.

"If you must break the law, do it to seize power: in all other cases observe it."

Gaius Julius Caesar (13 July 100BC – 15 March 44 BC)

  1. Say, do you remember when the Prime Minister first announced the cancellation of spring break to make up for days lost to prorogation? The opposition was upset and the Government compromised. At first Iggy came out and said it was a great idea, and then a few days later he changed his mind and put out a list of stupid demands that had to be met before he'd consider cancelling his spring break (some of those demands having already been promised by the PMO)? Well he did not cancel his spring break, and now it all makes sense.

I think the Blogging Tory community should have some fun with the theme of Ignatieff's Spring Break. Adjectives gone wild!

  3. Are they going to be filming his Spring Break? I don't know of anyone that could stomach looking at him motor-boating and showing his boobs. NSFW...?

  4. Another thinkers conference eh? I almost feel sorry for Iggy. I bet the big topic will be about how to lose Iggy with the least possible embarrassment.

  5. Oh my, Iffy is having a party and Liberal MPs are not invited....the Thinkers conference:

chantel hebert writes (she always puts the juicy stuff at the end of her articles)

'..But the conference is billed as a non-partisan event and, as of the end of last week, Liberal MPs had yet to land a spot on their own party's invitation list.'

  7. Oooooh! I just hope Iggy chooses to grace our humble little community with HIS presence!

btw, Mr.Ignatieff prefers Party members call him "Mr.Ignatieff", is it okay for those of us whose Party membership has lapsed,to simply call him "Sire", or "Your Nobleness",or some other expression of fealty?

I just feel the "Mr." is a bit condescending , and we all know Iggy's just a regular guy.

  8. Right now I'm wondering if Bob Rae set up Iggy with the Maternal Health motion.

  9. Well Rosemary Barton just shot down my theory. She said that the motion did not come from Bob Rae even though he apparently read it.
