Skipping work for a Hooked on Phonics Tour?

While the sovereign Canadian parliamentarians are busy doing their jobs in the legislature this week, the leader of the Opposition won't be among them. No, he'll be off on his Hooked on Phonics tour while his sovereign seat remains empty. I will say that I am not opposed to members of parliament collecting feedback from their constituents, but where I take issue is after a month of prorogation where Iggy screamed about the horror of parliamentarians not being allowed to work, he's now skipping a week of work to do something he could have easily done during the month of prorogue!

This is hilarious. First we get "parliament is the sovereign, let us get to work" then you hold 40% of your caucus from showing up to vote on the most important piece of legislation, and now as we implement that legislation, the leader of the opposition will be travelling cross country doing something he could do on YouTube! The irony is delicious. I will be eagerly following the Canadians Against Parliament Skipping Work to see if they share my outrage. Sorry, I'm not outraged. That is a poor choice of words when you are laughing hysterically…

So what is the appropriate name for this Listening Tour? I will be launching the webpoll shortly, but so far I have:

1) The Hooked on Phonics Tour
2) The Almost Famous Tour
3) The Hypocrisy Tour
4) The Ides of March Tour

  1. Will Bob Rae be sitting in the big chair while Iggy is away?

Beware the Ides of March! Bob may not want to give the megaphone away when Ignatieff returns.

  2. The Tax Payers Dime Tour.

This is an outrage! This is a blatant act of hypocricy and it stinks to high heaven. I'm already having a bad day and being reminded of this, just makes it worse.

I need a good chuckle and this isn't the magic pill. What a goof he is, seriously!

  3. Is this Tour being paid for with tax money? It sounds like something that should be funded by the individual party.

  4. Well, good point, I must be fair but based on most of his past actions, when parliament is in session, it would be something that could certainly be rationalized.
I wonder how we could find out?

  5. Totally partisan unbiased stating of facts!
You are apparently not aware that there are two sets of rules in this country, one for Liberal elites and one for everyone else.
I find this factual unbiased style highly un-Sheepish and lacking in Liberal Values!
Drawing attention to Liberal hypocrisy is frankly dangerous as it could lead to whole communities paying attention then anything is possible, even arghhh honest government and a prosperous citizenry.

  6. Is this true? Is this a joke? After NOT spending the extra 20 days or so of time during the extended parliamentary recess in his riding or out meeting with Canadians NOW Ignatieff wants to do this while the House is sitting?
Iceman- are you sure? It just seems to ridiculous to be true.
He already had one of the worst attendance records of all Liberal MPs; never has sat on any committees and NEVER attended the House on Fridays so maybe the guy just can't handle a full time job since he has actually never had one of those?

  7. Lets not forget that Iggy was also the keynote speaker at the main Canadians Against Prorogation rally on the lawn of parliament.

  9. Good call with the 'Learn to read' ad.

I'm also having a delicious serving of irony!

Don't you mean 'Canadians Against Liberals Not Doing Their Job?' on Facebook? Yeah, I see the communist/lazy fart Marx-a-Million is doing a pretty good job over there - he even linked to this post! Your audience spans the entire political spectrum - Canadian Cynic has been crapping all over you too - or so I hear. Must be good to get traffic from that site, eh?

  10. You will find in this game that once people run out of creative ideas for their own original material, they resort to little more than complaining about what other people write about. But my site is monetized, so I'm not complaining. I think of the cynic as one of my "earners".

  11. Are those from the temple of groupthink?

It has been said they all wear oversized shoes and drive to work in a tiny car.
