The United States set to begin funding foreign abortions?

Newsflash to the United States, according to the Liberal Party of Canada, Hillary Clinton has now promised to include funding of foreign abortions into future G8 policy initiatives. Today Canadian Liberals are claiming vindication for their failed foreign abortion initiative because Hillary Clinton made a statement about family planning; and leader Mike Ignatieff seems to have reclaimed his righteousness to demand our tax dollars fund foreign abortions. Even if Hillary personally believes that we should be paying for African abortions, she never said that was going to become American foreign policy. Canadian Liberals and Evan Soloman disagree.

It is one thing to say that maternal health should include abortion, but it is a bridge entirely too far to say that we should pay for them abroad. That will never become American foreign policy, so how in the hell is the statement she made vindication for Liberal demands that we fund foreign abortions? Soloman interviewed Bev Oda today, and he completely misrepresented Clinton's statements. Solo was representing that this is something that the United States intends to do through a G8 initiative rather than just Hillary stating her own beliefs. If you watch her statement she was smiling and in great spirits until the question was asked, then she looked down, her face went dark, and she stated her belief.

As Kory Teneycke asked on the Soloman Show, it will be interesting to see if and how quickly backlash from this spills over the border into the United States. I'm sure the country will be really excited to start paying for African abortions. Curbing African population growth likely excites many Liberals, but it's not something I expect to get much traction in the center. What would it say about a country if they were to adopt a more aggressive abortion policy abroad than it has at home?

  1. is it not illegal for the US to fund abortions. Is ther not a presidental decree to this effect?
I though this is how the health care bill was able to pass?

  2. Parliament had a vote on funding 3rd world abortions,
    a majority voted NO.
It was a Liberal motion voted down in the House by a majority of MPs......

Same with the Afghan mission. Parliament voted to end the mission in 2011.

If the Liberals want to fund 3rd world abortions and extend the combat mission in Afghanistan,
stand up like a man Iffy, and say so.

Quit hiding behind Hillary Clinton of the USA.
Did Iffy forget what country he calls home these days?

  3. As Kory said, the Democrats "swallowed themselves whole" on the abortion issue, in order to get Obamacare passed.

It would indeed be fun to watch the media down there press the administration on this absurdity--Hillary wants to fund African abortions, but Obama promised the pro-life Dem Congressmen that there would be NO federal funding of abortions.

What a hoot, if Donolo's "wedge issue", drives a wedge between Hillary and Obama !

  4. Hillary said they would support LEGAL abortions.Since Canada has no laws on abortion then Hillary must have been referring to US law or perhaps African nations laws.

  5. I don't understand the bizzare behaviour of SOS Clinton. I can't recall ever seeing such crude behaviour from a seniour diplomat, on an official visit. Just imagine the hysteria if C Rice had uttered similar statements on a visit.
What if anything is to be gained by picking a fight with Canada over 2 seemingly trivial issues, given the scope of Can-US relations. Was she in a bad mood, or is it just our turn to be insulted like UK, Austria, Greece etc.

  6. I think the Presidential order Obama just signed was for banning Domestic funding of Abortions. If you'll recall, the first thing Obama did as President was to repeal Bush's ban on the funding of Foreign abortions.

Besides, Obama is a well know extremist on the pro-abortion side. He and his allies WILL find away around it.

  7. Obama's paradox: No federal funding for domestic abortions, yet it's okay to kill unborn children in developing countries.

    How utterly shameful.

  8. If I were in Africa I wouldn't see an abortion in every pot as a gift from the western world. I would see it as racism by the colonist.

  9. Prevention of unwanted pregnancy is the key, from every perspective, emotional, cost, logistics.
Regardless of the legality of abortion in 3rd world countries, effective contraception reduces abortion deaths by 90%.
