Parliament Hill Behaving Badly

I do not believe that Helena Guergis is a drug dealer, and I do not believe that our soldiers shoot innocent teenagers in the back of the head execution style. If you have been watching media coverage of this week's events in the House of Commons, you may be inclined to believe one or both of the previous allegations to be plausible. If you want committee testimony and question period to be immune from libel or slander charges, then the events should not be broadcast on television. Even if the allegations are proven false, these types of statements can inflict irreparable damage to a public servant's career.

Do I think Liberal MPs should be allowed to accuse an elected Member of Parliament of narcotics distribution without any substantive evidence? Absolutely not, but if you think it is important to allow certain people the freedom to say things that regular citizens are not allowed to say, then you have to make those hearings and sessions private. What we have witnessed in the past week alone is potentially libelous claims spreading from Parliament into the mainstream media. The pundits can then discuss the accusations because they are reporting on the work of Parliament.

I can't just speculate that Helena Guergis operates an international crime syndicate, and then say it is okay for me to make that allegation in a public forum because the Prime Minister hasn't told us otherwise. The opposition knows that the PM is not permitted to disclose details of the police investigation, and yet they use his lack of disclosure to justify their own slander! It is beyond childish, in my opinion it is downright criminal. Is this what our official opposition has become? And what happens if the RCMP determines that Helena did nothing wrong?

I am expecting there will be a backlash for all the nasty things that have been said on television, if we find out that she did nothing wrong; and that her meltdown at the airport was in part attributable to the duress of recently having her second miscarriage in a year. Let's allow the RCMP to investigate the matter and make a determination.

  1. I want Wayne Easter to reveal who sent him the letter about the incident at the airport. Then I want the committee to call that person before them so we can question this airport employee. Now that the RCMP is looking into the incident, they should not be allowed to remain anonymous. I want to see video from the airport incident.

No Parliament committee should be allowed to interfere or call witnesses until the RCMP have concluded their investigation. The opposition MP's are on another witch hunt and they must allow any witnesses the government wants called to testify too. Because the opposition out numbers the government on committees they veto any government friendly witnesses. So much for democracy.

  2. Wayne Easter on CTV news tonight with Robert Fife. Wayne concerned that the Prime Minister dumped Helena without giving her a chance. Ha Ha Ha. Does CTV think Canadians are stupid?
    We need FOX news.

  3. 'And what happens if the RCMP determines that Helena did nothing wrong?'

The media and opposition parties will continue to blame PMSH.

    This PI will go from
''police sources describe the licensed private eye as a Tier 1 source'',
as Fife (exclusive) states at the 0:30 mark

to a shady charactor that PMSH should have investigated before booting Helena out of caucus...

The media the opps will find a scape goat for their own irresponsible behaviour, count on it.

Already there is no print copy ( tho I thought there was) of Fife calling the PI a Tier 1 source....some in the media have been writting over their stories since this whole affair started,
can they write over a news clip?

  5. Does it make sense to anyone because I can't get my head around this, or is this just an incredible story that Liberals and some members of the media are trying to spin. Snowdy claims to have information on Guergis, in the midst of her problems, and at which time the Liberals have been making all kinds of insinuations and smears of her character on a daily basis, and Liberals say they are looking for answers including who is the third party. Liberals say Canadians have a right to know all the details.
Someone (Snowdy) comes forward to the Liberals with information he has on Guergis, and he is told to get lost, don't bother us, and nobody wants to speak to him. I am not a turnip, and this is an insult to everyone's intelligence that this version of events is plausible and we should put any faith in its' veracity.

  6. It's a bubble that these idiots function in and I really don't think they get it that IT'S THEM that we are TALKING ABOUT!

Easter for example, is an astonishing embarrassment but then so are most of the women in the Liberal caucus. Then we have drama king, Holland and his twin smiling version, Kennedy. It just goes on and on but the most disgusting members of the bubble are the media personalities that think we take them for serious journalists.

No guys, you are really, really bad and the only ones that watch you or read you from this side of the voting public are the ones that only do it to report back on the blogs how stupid you look, sound or behaved.
This has been YOUR created butchering of these people, not the PM's. Give it a bloody rest, damned if he did damned if he didn't!

The best day of my life will be when their medium disappears or they are fired. The best!

  7. Snowdy was going to go public with the allegations.
Can you just imagine what the media and opps would have screamed if PMSH had done nothing, yet knew of the allegations?

Removal from Cabinet is a PMs choice.
Removal from caucus is a party leaders choice,
    right Garth!

Who gives a rats butt what Easter thinks!
Or Ditchburn or Taber or Andrew Coyne or Hebert.
It wasn't their decision to make.
And not one of them spoke to defend the rights of Helena and Jaffer.
The Dippers were right in there smearing too, the oh so righteous defenders of the vulnerable.
Guess the Dippers only come to your defence if you are a minority, lesbian, pro-abortion, EI or welfare recipient, Taliban, or want your bank charges reduced.

Canadians watched the media and opposition parties tear the lives and careers of Helena and Jaffer to shreds,
while this PM defended his minister.
For them now to pretend otherwise is laughable.

  8. You lot were pretty quick to hang Ruby Dhalla based on allegations if I recall. The hypocrisy is astounding but nonetheless expected.

  9. Nobody has said Guergis is a drug dealer or runs a crime syndicate. That is silly. One witness has said a Canadian soldier shot an Afghan. Are you not interested to know the truth behind these allegations? Are you satisfied with your mere "belief".

  10. Anonymouses, the crime syndicate remark was SARCASM, the Liberals did assert that Helena was "drug trafficking", and personally I never said anything negative about Ruby Dhalla during Nanny-gate so it is not accurate to allege that I did. But I appreciate your concern. Be warned that I often use satire as a writing tool.
