Ignatieff Accuses Tories of Starting a Culture War?

Yesterday Mike Ignatieff said at a fundraiser "but let’s be clear: we didn’t end the 25-year consensus on a woman’s right to choose. They did." What? There was no abortion debate until the Liberals started one. How can Ignatieff say "we didn’t divide rural and urban Canada over gun control. They did"; when rural Canada is widely against the long gun registry and the Tories want to scrap it? This doesn't make any sense! He is accusing the Tories of starting debates that Iggy himself initiated.

I'm sure it is not a coincidence that just as Ignatieff comes under fire for trying to start a culture war, he attempt to deflect fire by accusing the government of doing what Iggy actually did. It is not as though I should be surprised. Any opposition leader under fire for trying to divide the country will try to shift the blame to the Government. That is par for the course.

  1. Iggy may pay a price for his double standard.

He has defended those in his party who have major issues with abortion. This is hypocracy.

If the average Canadian has some concerns over abortion rights they are engaging in a culture war. If a Liberal does, that is to be respected.

    Nice.

It seems he is still uncomfortable even saying the A word.It could blow up in his face.

  2. Even Taber acknowledges Iffy's tactics are:

Liberals swing abortion wedge at Josée Verner
(does Donolo think Canadians are that stupid?)

'...The Tories were dismissive of the Liberal argument: ”Quelle surprise, Michael Ignatieff’s culture war continues, ” a senior Harper official says.
”He fought the first battle over abortion in the House of Commons and lost because his own troops shot him down.
Now he’s trying to wage the next battle abroad on the backs of the poor in the developing world. How sad.”

  4. of course count iffy has a double standard! He's the head double-speaker of the double-speaker party! the libiot party still thinks we live in 1920 so that we can't look up what they said about an issue yesterday and can therefore change their message for today. wake up libiots. it's 2010 and EVERYTHING you say is forever searchable on the internet. the days of your 2-face doubletalk a la chretien are long over! the libiot party's only platform issue is to regain power and hold it to push their ridiculous agenda that has already morally corrupted Canada forever. Beat it Iggy! run back to USA or UK or whatever other country you claim to call home.

  5. Wilson, I read the article. Taber was trying to attack the Minister for not supporting the failed foreign abortion motion.

    "Libiot" - That's a new one. I prefer Leftard.

  7. Just wanted to hilite another 'war' on the Harper govt that Iffy and his Liberal troopers have lost:

''Ottawa Health Research Institute researcher Michael Rudnicki..."the Conservative government failing to support science."

The institute's president, Gary Corbett... difficult for Canada to compete globally.

"There is a very real danger that these researchers, scientists and engineers will look to the United States to continue their careers, now that the Obama administration is making such a serious and wide-ranging commitment to science" said Corbett.

..Canadian Medical Association Journal that said cuts to science funding risked starting a brain drain.
