Prentice Quits Harper

Jim Prentice has resigned from his seat in federal politics, but the question is did he retire from politics, or was this a matter of him quitting Stephen Harper? The caption on CTV News Channel was "Environment Minister quits Harper cabinet", and many pundits have been speculating that this is the first step at a future leadership run. Today's poll question; do you think Jim Prentice is a viable candidate for a future Conservative leadership run? Personally, I don't think quitting politics is the best way to get leadership experience (ala Sarah Palin), so if quitting was about a future leadership run, I do not approve. If he is just sick of politics, I understand.

I don't know that he ever liked being Minister of the Environment, as Craig Oliver says Jimmy was very fond of the industry portfolio now held by Tony Clement. Others speculate that Stephen Harper put Prentice in a "dead end job" to neutralize a future leadership rival, such that now he is free to make a boat load of money and throw his name into the next Tory leadership race, whether that happens (be it in 2 years or 10 years). My last memory of Prentice will be his camping trip with Soloman and Suzuki.

  1. Prentice is an opportunist and a conservative in name only.

  2. Unlike others who presume to be able to read people's minds, I take Jim Prentice at his word. He said he came into public service for a limited period of time, and his time in public service is done.

If he did become disenchanted it was not with a "dead end job" but it was with the caterwauling atmosphere of the House, where all sorts of personal insults are launched by the opposition, yet the government side is expected to respond calmly and with equanimity. Prentice seemed to be uncomfortable with that kind of behaviour.

  3. I'm totally impressed with the news that he's moving on. His refusal to see the blatant lies of the green fascists was, and always will be unacceptable.

I'm all for us human cleaning up after ourselves but that's not what the green fascists are trying to accomplish.

They are using the concern for the environment as a screen and a justification for the socialist takeover of our lives and of our world. This is all about them being put into position to strangle our freedom and free choice out of us. That makes the green leaders the real enemies of the environment. They remind me of the “peace movement” that way, which isn’t surprising because they are pretty much the same bunch.

Is it really that hard to see what’s right before our eyes? It seemed to be a problem for Prentice. That’s why it’s good to see him go.

Of course I’m sure that he or someone like him would be a favorite of the lying Toronto media dirt bags to become the next leader of the Conservatives. Just like John Tory was with this same crew, or how John McCain was down south. They’ll attempt to make that happen but I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for it to be successful. They’ve pulled every dirty trick in the book for their puppet-bitch Iffy and look at how unsuccessful they’ve been. They’ve lost a lot of their power to influence, and it shows!

  4. Jim Prentice a very honourable man...none of your thoughts fit... He is moving on because the right offer came along at the right time. Period!

  5. Tory Gal, Prentice has on more than one occasion ignored his constituent's wishes. I voted for him only because I'd rather streak naked (yeeccchh!!) through the neighbourhood than vote Liberal or NDP.

  6. Who was he going to go to work for again?

Was it the Toronto Imperial Bank of Rigged Competition?

Does he have any experience in the banking industry?

Do you think that he’s going to be starting out as a bank teller and work his way up from there, or does he get his own luxury office on the top floor of one of those gleaming high rise towers in downtown Toronto?

    Hmmm………..but

Maybe he does want to be the leader!

But the big question is “Which Party!”

All things considered, could he be an “anointment away” from being the leader of the Liberal Party of Toronto?

    It makes sense to me.

Think “Belinda” if you doubt me.
